Derby Boot

Limited run of 15 Pairs. Handcrafted in Canada.

Sold out
Sale price$2,250

For our first boot, we went back to the archive.

For our inaugural footwear release, we returned to our roots. The Derby Boot is a pattern years in the making, drawn from a classic silhouette in the Love Jules Leather archive and refined in a new standard for fit, material and durability. Cut from full-grain leather and hand-welted in small batches, it is designed for the long haul and the kind of heavy use that earns a boot its soul.

Fit & Dimensions

As a core advantage of our made-to-order model, Volume 01 offers a range of widths rarely found in ready-to-wear or mass produced models. This allows us to prioritize anatomical precision over standard sizing.

Fit Guidance:

  • The Silhouette: Expect a more exacting, secure fit than off-the-shelf footwear.
  • The Consultation: We will contact you once you’ve placed your order to confirm sizing. We prefer to get the first chapter right.

Leather

We chose Horween Dublin for its visceral depth and refusal to wear out. This vegetable-tanned hide is infused with a century-old formula of oils and waxes, providing immediate structure that yields to your stride over time. This is the kind of leather that keeps a record. It softens, marks, and deepens honestly.

Natural: A living finish. It starts light and deepens into a honeyed patina dictated by your climate and your path.

Black: A matte, architectural black that maintains its silhouette while quietly recording the marks of a life well-lived.

Hand-Welted Construction

Each pair is engineered using traditional hand-welted construction, a disciplined, labor-intensive process that yields a boot of superior flexibility and structural integrity. Unlike mass-produced alternatives, hand-welting allows the leather to breathe and move with the foot from day one. The Derby Boot is fully recraftable, designed to be resoled as the years accumulate.

Durable Foundation

The Derby Boot is anchored by a natural leather midsole and your choice of two Vibram® outsoles, each selected to dictate the boot’s character without compromising its foundation. Both foundations are selected to support the upper in different environments, allowing you to choose how the boot meets the world.

430 Mini-Lug: A versatile lug sole with strong grip and a slightly more rugged stance. Good for all-weather city wear and more varied ground.

Eton Studded: A refined, dress-informed sole with a sleek underfoot profile. This option offers a more formal lean and a sophisticated finish, while retaining the resilience required for daily use.

Volume 01 is limited to a made-to-order run of 15 pairs.

Keeping the run this small allows us to focus on fit, build quality, and material integrity instead of excess inventory. Every pair is made to order, with a process built around precision and a lead time of approximately 4 months.

How it works

Virtual Fitting: We begin with a technical review of your measurements to confirm sizing, width, and fit before any leather is cut.

Material Sourcing: We secure the leather and components needed for the run, ordering with intention and based on the exact number of pairs in production.

Bench Work: Your boots enter production. Uppers are cut and sewn, the pair is lasted, soled, and hand-finished through a slower, more exacting process.

Inspection and Fulfillment: Each pair is checked at the finishing bench, inspected for quality, and packed for shipment once complete.

A Note on the Variables

Our pieces are built through focused partnerships and a domestic network of makers. This model allows for extreme precision, but it also means we are beholden to the honesty of the materials and the patience of the artisan.

We do not believe in shortcuts. If a timeline extends, it’s a reflection of our refusal to compromise the structural integrity of your Volume. While we’ll prioritize maintaining delivery dates, we’ll remain in close contact with you if any dates are shifted.

Archive is a Canadian leather goods company focused on making fewer, better things. Our boots and leather goods are produced in small runs through a domestic network of makers who bring deep expertise to the craft. The goal isn’t endless newness — it’s pieces that hold up, wear well, and remain worth keeping years down the line.
